Pros

Enthusiastic people who believe in transparency. Everyone I've met really believes in, and lives the company values.

Cons

Parking can be a little tough at HQ, but the shuttle service to a nearby parking lot helps ease a minor inconvenience.

A great company to work for

Pros

Very positive atmosphere; being surrounded by other hard-working, results oriented prople is a great motivator. Pay very competitively but expect a certain level of expertise and effort as a result, which is to be expected.

Cons

High growth rate can put stresses on any company, and the balance between maintaining the great structure that caused the need for this growth and the ability to scale can cause big changes as the company attempts to adapt. Be prepared to be a little flexible, depending on the position you're looking at taking, as roles may adapt over time.

Write for loops and run for loops!

Pros

If you can write for loops and run for loops, SolarCity may be the place for you. We’re not a Google, but we do have free cereal and snacks in the kitchens. There’s also a cafeteria that serves reasonably priced breakfast and lunch, and if you choose to work late there’s always more cereal! We have access to the College of San Mateo facilities, so if you’re into running, tennis, soccer, or mountain biking (at the nearby Water Dog Lake) then you’ll enjoy joining one of the lunch time workouts. On a more serious note, if you’re a programmer, be prepared to do sit-ups and query big data sets. We take pride in owning the programs we work on and in supporting our fellow co-workers and customers that use them. The management team is great and having direct access to the founders who truly understand the business, listen to their employees, and have a real passion for providing clean affordable energy can’t be beat.

Cons

No free gourmet meals and all you can eat ice cream.
