Pros

The Engineers, the reps, and the 'Company-Mom'. You meet great people here, and build lasting friendships. These people are the reason you survive your time here because no one understands the stress and verbal abuse you endure...you are in the trenches together enduring the hell that is SolarWinds.

Cons

Lets start with the CEO who only comes down from his tower on the 4th floor to yell, "sell something" during EOQ. Someone who could not point out one of his sales reps in a police line-up, yet alone know their name. I'm not talking new reps either, but veterans. People that have dedicated themselves to SW for years. He doesn't even know his Account Executives by name, those whom are a contributing factor to his success as CEO and the companies success. Rather than try to fix the issues in-house, and try to change the culture in his own company to prevent people from WANTING to leave and SEEKING employment elsewhere, he sends threats and tries to invoke fear if other companies continue to hire reps from SW. I don't know if he is just clueless or doesn't care, but reps leave because they want to, not because they are sought out. No one works there/stays because they like it, or want to, but because they are looking for something better...hoping that it comes sooner rather than later. There is no growth within the company here. They will send people away to run different offices, in-state or out of country, with promise of a promotion upon their return. These people have come back to the Austin office with the hopes of a higher position, going from running an office to managing a sales team. This is a perfect example of how much they don't care about their employees and do not appreciate their dedication. Work/Life Balance. Ha. It does not exist. If you do happen to get time off you get grief for it. If you are sick, they make you feel guilty that you are not there. If you have to call in for any reason, you call in with the fear you are going to get fired. They are insensitive, slave drivers who do not care about you or what's going on in your life. This is a company run by 'bosses' not 'leaders.' Work hard, play hard? More like Work, work, work, work, work. Don't think that you will have weekends off. You won't. You will get an email on a Sunday asking you to complete some task. More than likely you will receive an email at 8 or 9 pm telling you to come in early the next day. If you want a job where you are glued to your email, then by all means send in your resume. You hit quota? Great, but that is not enough. You exceed quota? Great, but that is not enough. You sold $50K yesterday? Okay, but what do you have coming in today? Nothing you do here is ever good enough. One Director in-particular here has zero respect for his employees. I've never met someone so two-faced in my life. He has something to prove and will do anything he can to stay relevant. He will put you down, verbally abuse you, and make you think he is fighting for you. He fights for no one, but himself. Get a spot on his team and you will be sending your resume to McDonald's just to get away.

Incompetent CCO Trickles Down

Pros

work life balance, free lunches, free snacks, selling legitimate industry leading products, certain sales teams have strong culture

Cons

Chief Customer Officer has never sold, never led a sales team and knows nothing about sales. She came from renewals team which is basically a collections team. In conjunction with the lack of experience, she lacks any semblance of basic leadership skills. She makes decisions in a vacuum and shows favoritism to all women and anyone from the renewals team. Her complete lack of skill and competence trickles down into handcuffing the broader sales org. Our president of sales is useless at best. He does nothing, says nothing has 0 Presence and brings 0 value to his vps or to the sales reps working under the vps. Our CEO claims to care about the reps but he clearly doesn’t bc he has continued to allow these 2 empty suit/dead weight Employees to remain. I’m addition to promoting another former renewals/collections leader to a sales role in spite of having 0 sales Or Sales Leadership experience.

Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback and review. As a people-first company, the employee experience is extremely important to us. Our leadership team truly cares about ensuring every employee feels valued, is treated fairly, and is respected. We continue to hire based on attitude, competence, and commitment at all grade levels, including our executive leaders. Our president of sales has a similar background and continues to drive value to the business. Pros

Some say it's great to have Solarwinds on a resume. I suppose it's like surviving your first year of the apocolypse. If you make it, your better for it and can make it anywhere. Most of my co-workers are good, solid people. Like a lot of Austin tech companies, they feed you lunch, two times a week. Kuerig coffee machines in every kitchen with k-cups, tea, also sodas and snack carts. The building is really cool with modern design, and the campus is attractive. Apparently being a private company is a "Pro".

Cons

Positions here are mostly a revolving door, and the attrition is incredible, from individual contributors, to managers, to VP and C level roles. Morale is pretty low across the board. I'm not in sales, but all you hear is "sell, sell, sell!' with very little sharing of the philosophy or goals of the company, aside from hitting quarterly and annual goals. The energy level is depressing and the culture is rife with adult ADD, bipolarity, childish middle-school backstabbing in its leadership. The CEO makes random decisions and will change the course of how we do business on a dime. One quarter it's this approach. The next quarter, it's abandon that and try this other approach. So many managers, including mine, are manipulative, untrustworthy people only out for themselves. This place is pretty old school. As people walk into the building in the mornings, it looks like that old black and white footage of factory workers during the depression. Typically by Wednesday, I hear people greet each other with "is it Friday yet?" in the hallways or in meetings. Don't expect to be praised for a job well done or promoted with any normally assumed timing if you're looking for a career track. At the end of the day, I think people who are still here after a year are just waiting around for a better job offer, retirement, IPO, or a miracle.
