Pros

Great colleagues. Good recognition of sales and technical people, very little for those behind the scenes supporting sales and technical.

Cons

Worked with company for many years and with the recent change in leadership a decision was made to remove a large group of very knowledgeable people. Company has become extremely silo-ed in they way they operate, lack of information sharing. IT support - help lines (off shore) and portal are extremely frustrating - not user friendly.

Long-Standing Company with Forward Goals

Pros

Solenis is a long-standing company (previously under the names Ashland and Hercules), which will likely be around for some time to come since they deal in a diverse market of products, including paper, pulp, and water treatment. Since the company went private last year there have been a lot of changes for better or worse. Some positives I can note on the company are a strong focus on safety and quality, as well as a reasonably clear development plan for the company going forward. The company is now smaller than when it was owned by Ashland, so there is slightly less of a huge corporation feel to management, though it is still very corporate in nature. While I cannot speak to other departments and/or plants, I feel that the communication between my own department and others we work closely with is very efficient, with some minor exceptions. Most of the people in product development and the product coordinators are very good at what they do and work to resolve issues in a timely manner.

Cons

I hear a lot of complaints from long-standing employees about decisions made by upper management, particularly involving staffing. I know my own department is pitifully under-staffed with ever-increasing expectations, and trying to add additional resources is like pushing through a concrete wall. Upper management is also very detached from the people they manage, from what I can gather, and communications are often very impersonal. This is again the big-corporate attitude maintained by upper management, which reduces employee confidence. Also a huge issue is the new off-shore IT. It is terrible and extremely frustrating to deal with any kind of issue with them.
