Pros
Clinipath Pathology (under umbrella of Sonic) has me on a 22.5 hour contract per week on part time, or 15 hours if you elect it, pay is good. Generally you will start on $18hr for the first 3-6 months. Option of picking up more than contracted hours as long as they are available and you don't go over time (76hr fortnight). If you are a relief staff member you get $7 per day for petrol. Make sure you know exactly what they want from your, where you will be working & hours before you sign! I think the employees who have their own collection centre and don't get moved around have a better work environment but they won't give you that until you've been there for a minimum of 3 months.
Cons
I am a 'Permanent Part-time Relief', the relief part I wasn't made aware of when I was hired nor did I agree to it at any point. I get a call between 6:15-6:45am each morning to tell me who I'm covering & which suburb that collection centre is in. Sometimes I won't be given enough notice to get there on time if it's far away from me and then have to deal with the disgruntled fasting patients. Sometimes nobody will call in sick and I won't be needed, in which case they try to get me to put in down as an annual leave day when it's not my decision to not work that day. Stingy work Xmas do, not allowed to bring partners. Have to get a sick note from doctor every time which generally costs $65 to see a GP just for a note for work... You are often working alone and get very lonely, bring a book! You will be quiet all afternoon, only busy during the fasting period (8-9:30AM usually). Feel awkward covering other centres as you have to use the doctors surgery staff room and bathrooms and the reception ladies aren't very welcoming. A lot of collection centres are more like cupboards, like actual tiny janitors rooms, that they've tried to make an office out of, very uncomfortable to sit in all day. Only just getting computers in selected centres this month, a lot of manual paperwork. It's bad for the environment.
