Private equity & management are ethically challenged

Pros

When I worked at Sonicwall I enjoyed the comradery with my co-workers. While the work was never intellectually stimulating or satisfying in any real way, the social aspect of the company pre-pandemic was the main attraction. Unfortunately, when private equity (Francisco Partners) acquired Sonicall from Dell they brought in, along with a new management team, a toxic culture which included a two-tier employment structure.

Cons

Francisco Partners has a deserved reputation for having sketchy ethics in their laser focus on profits. Non-management employees at Sonicwall are often treated as second class citizens. While those in management are given fancy job titles and multiple promotions, along with extra PTO and larger bonuses, non-management staff are held in low regard. This shows up in the paltry pay raises and rare promotions. In fact, it is obvious that Sonicwall's management (at the behest of their private equity overlords) doesn't give a hoot about the non-management employees because they intend to either send their jobs to India or automate the jobs away completely. Beyond this behavior, Sonicwall management also finds all kinds of excuses for denying employees bonuses, using fine print in some obscure "bonus policy" that is not widely disseminated among the company employees. While Sonciwall has pretensions of being a Big Boy company, its management tactics are those of a Bush League player. My advice to anyone considering working at Sonicwall is to Stay Away!! You won't regret it.
