A good company with an identity crisis

Pros

SonicWall is a good company with a lot of decent, smart people and a passion to grow in a very competitive business. They provide a decent salary, a decent work environment, and the benefits are okay.

Cons

They are currently owned by a private equity firm that is driven by metrics and cares more about increasing market share and profits than in product quality and employee fairness. Hopefully they will grow up soon and be purchased by a technology firm that knows how to promote these exceptional products and will care about employee morale. I found the work-life balance to be very difficult, because of the amount of crap being pushed down from above.

Pros

Work/life balance is amazing: the major most perk of Sonicwall life.

Cons

No proper growth investment, all of that is hamstrung from on high at the ownership level on down. Staffing level decisions are made by spreadsheet instead of with an eye for long-term outcomes. Individuals and individual groups do innovate and try to innovate, but every innovation is like a fish swimming up a ladder while people arbitrarily and randomly seem to push random fish back down.

Pros

Most seem like a nice group of people.

Cons

-Worst product management leadership in the Valley -Don't expect engineering to welcome or be prepared for the innovation required to face today's challenges. You can have grandchildren and when they reach your age, you will still be working with the same tired and obsolete Engineering team. Core engineers in this company come from the old, slow and rusty hardware world. In fact, some of them pretend to believe they are skilled enough to retrofit director-level roles in PM. Just run as far away from this mediocre company as you can.
