Pros

Benefits ok. Other divisions in the Sony are good. The Sony US Research Center is not good.

Cons

These comments for the Sony US Research Center If you wish to work at the Sony, work for other division besides the Sony US Research Center in San Jose. Major problems exist at the Sony US Research Center. Fact: I observe this year, over 25% of the technical staff quit and leave. [There is still 1.5 months left in fiscal year.] Typical turnover at other research center - Nokia, HP, IBM is 2-3%. Silicon Valley currently in recession. This number tell you how bad the conditions to be at the Sony US Research Center. Fact: Head of the research center employed by Sony 20+ years. But, nearly all engineers in the research center have been working at the research center < 5 years. Many are new hire within the last 1 to 2 year. Not a good sign.... Fact: There are big funding issue and job security problem at the Sony US Research Center. Fact: Upper management dishonest with employees. No transparency. Fact: The Sony Electronics have company survey. Survey result suppose to be reported to employees by mandate of Sony President. The Sony US Research Center never report results to employees. My understanding based on talk with other employees at the Sony US Research Center. Our results are very bad, very bad, very bad. Fact: Pay is low. You can confirm if you get job offer here. Stay away. I would not recommend friend to work at the Sony US Research Center. Other departments in the Sony are ok.

Sony US Research and Design Center is doing amazing work. We’re disappointed to hear you had a different experience when you worked here. We’re open to and encourage feedback from employees, even former employees if you want to share ideas. We’ve been getting good feedback from employees and are looking for more great talent!

Pros

Great brand. Great managers, Super reseller channel. Great passion for the product.

Cons

cronyism, nepotism and affirmative action are killing opportunities for super smart, clever, analytical people that could really push the brand forward. New Sr. Management is great, and exciting, and hopefully changes will continue so the dead weight is pushed out, not just aside to run/mess up yet another business unit.

Pros

The company and products are widely recognized and you feel proud of your company. In additition, the company or the group is big enough to offer you great training and job rotation so there is lots of opportunity for career development. In relation to this, the company factories and offices are located in many places in and outside the US. Especially you will have many chances to go over to Japan office depending on your position. So if you are looking for challenges, travels and changes to deal with electronic product, it is definitely a place you should consider worling with.

Cons

I think the only and biggest downside to me was the fact that the company is donimated by Japananese culture. It is obvious to some extent, but sometimes I found it difficult to ;adjust to it or feel I am really the part of company. Some of the top guys were not even comnfortable communcating in English.
