Pros

- the name looks good on a resume - your ID gets you into pretty much any art museum in the world - crazy cool art - I've never felt as good as I did the moment I quit (without even having another job lined up just had to get out asap!)

Cons

- working conditions are so bad that whole departments will quit at a time after requesting better working conditions and pay and sothebys just says no - expected to work 12+ hrs - their overtime system is such that you have to work 2x the hours to get paid for 1/2 the over time (if Monday is a government holiday and you work 12 hours on Tuesday you will not be paid any over time, will have to work 9+hrs over time to get paid 1+hr of overtime) - reprimanded for taking time off after a close family members death - was yelled at on my second day by management (theme through out) - a client quite literally threated to track me down on social media, harras me and smear my name for a shipment not arriving the day after they paid and management's response was to ask why I didn't give them what they wanted - 'bonus' was a literally facetime with our manager saying thank you - MASSIVLY under paid, not a livable income even if you arent living in NY and commuting - was expected to still work even when I was very sick which a high fever - had physical health issues as a result of the amount of stress and hours worked

Pros

Great brand name, and the opportunity to work with some incredibly smart and passionate people

Cons

Dreadfully mismanaged, toxic company culture, profoundly understaffed across all departments, junior employees are abused and exploited for what amounts to pauper's wages in New York - good luck if you don't have a trust fund. If you are good at your job they will keep increasing your workload (but not your pay, obviously) until you become just as broken and bitter and dysfunctional as everyone else. Turnover rate is wild, especially in post-sale. No real path for progression. This place will ruin your life and eat your soul, but the second you reveal even a hint of dissatisfaction you will be punished for having a *bad attitude*

Pros

All the beautiful art and jewelry.

Cons

Abusive, sexist, ageist snobby pushy environment. If you are a woman over 40, they treat you like dirt. No one that I worked with had degrees in art, all business, psych, language degrees -then I see several years later they are lying on their resumes about having art degrees. HR has no respect for art education does not see that as a qualification. They will bend over backwards for you if you hav e an MBA.
