Pros

Work here because you believe in the mission of public transit, because you’ve burnt out at higher pressure jobs and want to relax into a more reasonable pace, or because you want the peace of mind of knowing you will still have your job tomorrow, even if it does not come with lots of growth opportunities.

Cons

Financial career growth is limited (at least in the IT and Communications worlds). It is generally known that if you want to be at Sound Transit in the long run but you also want to make more money, the best plan is to get a few years under your belt here, move to a different company for a big title bump, and then turn around and come back here for another title bump later. Staying here and growing through the ranks has left many long-term employees at the same salary that newbies are coming in at.
