Pros

the company truly cares about their employees and customers. They are one of the few companies that "delivers service after the sale." They expect their employees to be accountable for their actions during work hours as well as in their personal life. They stress to all employees that the employee is a reflection of Southern Co 24/7. They believe in holding their employees to very high standards w/ a true sense of loyalty and integrity. Family is very important to the company and when making decisions management keeps in mind the effect that changes will make on the employee and their family unit as a whole.

Cons

many advancements opportunities are located only in large metro areas.

Pros

The environment is great! Very much so like a family in the field and in corporate. The culture is great and Southern Company is committed to doing a great job. Will see Senior Management; they're not hard to find. For the co-ops and interns, we had monthly development meetings with Executives and Management that were really helpful.

Cons

There is a very large age gap. The knowlegde transfer process is a problem. Also, it's all about who you know. If you can get in the right networks and keep your face out there, you'll go where you want to go. If it's not your passion, you will easily get lost in the crowd. And sometimes it get a little too conservative. They are doing a lot better with diversity, but there is still a long road ahead.

Pros

You want to live in Birmingham, AL or the deep south. There is a good amount of travel if needed. Once you leave work, you are then done for the day and weekend, you hardly ever will be called in again unless there is an emergency or something extraordinarily rare.

Cons

You are in a very conservative part of the country. There is a lack of challenging work for employees to avoid boredom. You are given monotonous tasks that you have done in 30 minutes, but you must extend them out by a few days because you would be bored otherwise.
