      Pros

      Southern places a lot of emphasis on continuing education. There are several opportunities to learn about the company and how it produces revenue. Southern is totally committed to its employees and values them and their communities. In fact community involvement is an unspoken requirement for management positions. The pay is also a great reason to work for Southern.

      Cons

      Southern is a highly regulated business and therefore can be a bit beurocratic for my tastes. Meaning the organization is highly structured and there are set ways to do things. Not the place for "freespirits" the company demands teamwork on all projects.

      Pros

      Working for Southern Company is great most because of the corporate culture you are a part of. Southern Style is great to follow. Casual dress code. Being a part of a company that provides power and other services to millions of customers. Being part of Hurricane recovery efforts was a great experience. It's like family working in a few departments. Great emphasis on safety, TargetZero goals. Not too much of micromanaging. Great food at staff meetings, they love to feed their employees. Opportunity to learn lots of different skills to advance . Great communication method by using SouthernLINC radios for all employees.

      Don't get to really meet people up the chain of command.

      Pros

      Secure company with good benefits. Southern Company has a company/employee pay incentive where they match up to six percent of your salary. Free money is hard to beat. They also have a stock plan that is hard to beat. Southern company is a great public utility company to invest. Never has Southern Company taken a drastic drop on the stock market.

      Cons

      Long hours with no comp time. It is tough to work ten to twelve hours a day as well as weekends. You are paid for the time you put in but there is little time left for yourself. If there was a way to add vacation time for the long hours it would be a great incentive to work the long hours.
