Pros

I think the work enviroment at Southern Company is great. Evrybody is nice and respectful. Managers and supervisors are interested in employes not only on a work level, but also in a personal level. They understand when employes need to take care of personal matters. They are also good recognizing when employees do a good job. The benefits are great, better than most companies I know, they match up to 6% of the 401K and have good health benefits. Managers and supervisors are open to listen employees with any concerns and willing to solve any problems. THe buildings and facilities are also nice.

Cons

Some times the promotios are different for some people and it seems like it is easier to move up for some. There is people who is been working harder and for longer time and don't get the same promotions. That seems to be unfair, specially when some people is doing a great job that is very important for the company and don't get a promotion, while someone else who is doing just a good job and has been in the company half of the time gets the promotion. The rules about how promotions are granted are not clear to anyone.

Pros

Great people to work with Good communications between employees and from top management Friday forums available to learn more abou the business The company is daring enough to venture into non-core businesses which are more exciting First name basis right up to the CEO Flexible work time is avialable, including telecommuting options Environmentally friendly company with many company sponsored programs to give back to the community Great midtown location and nice offices to work in, plus free on-site parking (rare in midtown)

Cons

Utility business not super exciting and earnings are highly dependent on public service commissions Recent Cost cutting measures have taken a lot of the fun out. No more employee holiday parties or summer outings.
