Pros

Overall great opportunity to learn; flexible remote work is a plus; snacks and sometimes lunches provided which is nice. Good first job if you need experience.

Cons

Too many management cliques; brown nosers; separation of depts; no cohesiveness. A few toxic people known to have record of sabotaging other employees, seem to be rewarded while other hard workers get booted or ignored. Sad. Not a happy place— too many under paid, taken advantage of people. Many overqualified for pay and responsibility they’re given.

I just visited all our global offices over the last 2 months. While there, I spent time with 1000+ employees. The reality is Sovos employees are richly diverse and passionate about out organization and our mission. We have an audacious goal – To Solve Tax For Good. In order to achieve our goal, we need as many talented, engaged and motivated employees as possible, so we can’t afford to overlook top performers. And we have a long history of giving people challenging opportunities regardless of arbitrary criteria like direct experience or “qualifications.” The reality of having such a deep, talented and diverse workforce is when opportunities for advancement arise (as they do often), there are several highly qualified individuals who can step into those roles. It can be competitive, and we make tough choices – choices based on a rigorous, merit-based process designed to specifically eliminate favoritism. There is no place for sabotage here – it flies in the face of our Core Values. Folks who have that sort of attitude are not rewarded. Teamwork, diversity and camaraderie are building blocks of our Be Collaborative core value. We know we can’t hit our lofty goals if we don’t Row Together, and we will continue to build on our solid collaborative foundation. Based on your comments, your time with Sovos did not work out. For that, I’m empathetic but glad to hear you left to find a better fit. Employees at Sovos take away a unique set of experiences, which serve them well in their career. We wish you only the best in the future.

Pros

Not many. If you like not having much to and getting paid nothing to do it, this is your place.

Cons

Crazy low pay, no one knows what they’re doing and almost no benefits. Losing customers faster than they’re getting them.

We appreciate you taking the time to provide your feedback and are sorry to hear that you had a disappointing experience while here at Sovos. We would like to take the time to address some of the points that you bring up. First, we recognize that salary is an extremely important component when choosing an employer - after all, it’s your livelihood. This is why we maintain a pulse check on market average. We benchmark our salaries against similar companies in similar geographies to ensure that our wages are fair and competitive. In addition to that, we provide regular opportunities for salary increases via promotions and merit increases. Thirty percent of our employees at Sovos experienced a promotion or job change in FY18. You also mention benefits. We realize that salary isn’t the only thing that employees value. That is why we choose to offer a Total Rewards program in which we pair salary with a number of other benefits that help to make our employees lives better. We offer health benefits with an employer matching HSA contribution, myTime flexible time off, paid maternity and leave programs, an employer matched 401k program, tuition reimbursement, development and wellness programs and many, many more. And we feel our employees appreciate that, which showed in a 14% increase in our latest engagement survey when asked about benefits compared to others in the industry. And you are right, we are not a startup company and our huge growth has shown that! But our culture is more reflective of one where our senior leaders are present, ideas are heard, and change is made. We’re sorry that you did not view it this way, or get a chance to experience some of the benefits offered. Again, we appreciate your feedback and wish you luck in your future career. - Joe Healey

Sovos, not streamlined but striving

Pros

There are a lot of intelligent people working at Sovos. The Troys and Jeffs of the organization make it worth it to work there. You will learn a lot of skills and gain great experience. The rate of growth is high and the departments are all full of people who genuinely want the company to succeed.

Cons

If you don't like turbulence, don't fly with Sovos. There is constant change and constant turnover. This company is really good for gaining experience and skills, but not for the long term. There is not a lot of career opportunity for advancement. Be prepared to be lied to and kept out of the loop on lots of things. Transparency means different things to different people within the organization. Also, sometimes new department heads try too hard to make it their own and lose sight of what works well and they talent they have. At Sovos, everyone is replaceable, which is sad because institutional knowledge is critical in that kind of business.

Thank you for taking the time to share your thoughts. Feedback like yours helps us understand what’s working well and where we’re falling short. We are glad to hear you recognized the value of working alongside talented, passionate people, as well as the opportunity to learn new skills and gain hands-on career experience. Our career advancement philosophy at Sovos is that your growth is in your hands. We have a strong preference for hiring internally and all promotion decisions are merit-based. In the past 12 months alone, nearly one-third of our 600 employees experienced career growth in some form. In fact, Sovos employees use the words “growth” and “potential” to describe their experience more so than employees at other benchmarked tech companies. You are right that in order to be successful at Sovos, you must embody our core value of “embrace change.” We believe this includes the ability to adjust effectively to the rapidly changing conditions inherent with working in a high-growth business and industry. Many Sovos employees view the excitement of working in a dynamic environment as a positive aspect of working here, but we acknowledge the fast pace of change is not right for everyone. We are disappointed to hear that you experienced a lack of transparency at Sovos. With 750+ employees in eight offices on three continents (up from 600 last year!), it can be a challenge to communicate in a way that reaches and resonates with everyone, which is why we are undertaking efforts to improve internal communication this year. One project underway is the development of a company intranet, where employees will be able to connect, collaborate, and communicate with each other while staying up-to-date on company news. Thank you again for taking the time to provide feedback on your experience. We wish you all the best in your future endeavors.
