Pros

I enjoy interacting with the customers, and most of my coworkers are friendly.

Cons

Low Pay - I washed dishes before I worked here, and the only reason my starting pay was better here is because minimum wage was raised twice. I still don't make as much as I did there. No hours - When hired, I was told I was going to be working part time, which was fine. I ended up working full time hours, with no full time benefits such as vacation, which was fine. However, when the Healthcare legislation took effect this year, I was told that I cannot go above 27 hours. This is ridiculous, it is insulting that this company is so money-hungry that they would rather hire poorly trained part-timers (who do not stick around because they can't get more than 2 shifts a week if they're lucky) than to actually promote their hard workers who stick with their company to full time. Poorly trained coworkers - I work third shift, and when I come in at night, one of the second shift people is still on register ringing people up, while the other has signed off my register. On multiple occasions I have had to show my coworkers how to close out their drawer properly, all while ringing up customers and making sure the store does not get too dirty during the early night rush. At my store people are not properly trained to do even the most basic tasks in there. They sit you at the computer to watch some videos and take some quizzes, and afterwards they are supposed to review everything with you. This does not happen. Unrealistic company goals - According to the company, more than half of my transactions should have a Speedy Rewards card. Keep in mind that you can't scan your own (you can and will get fired) and you can't scan one and throw it away. People are written up because our customers either don't want a Speedy Rewards card, or they forgot theirs at home. They can use their alternate ID, but only if they have it set up, and it takes a lot longer to use than the regular card. The ECE Worksheet - This thing is just awful. This is a mandatory list of all the tasks in the store that you have to sign off on. Supposedly, Third Shift, with one person, is supposed to clean and stock the cappuccino machine, clean the roller grill, stock the roller grill twice, stock all of the lids and cups, clean the microwave, clean the hot cart, clean and stock the chili/cheese machine, clean and stock the cold condiment unit for the roller grill, clean and stock the creamiser, stock all the creamers and sweeteners for the coffee, front and face the entire store every hour, clean the restrooms every hour, sweep and mop the floors, stock the floor and cooler, clean the cooler doors, clean the front door, check dates for all of the food products (even the ones in the cooler, where you can't hear or see the front of the store), do dishes, stock the cigarettes and other tobacco products, sweep the lot, empty outside trash, wipe down the outside displays, wipe down the pumps, check and stock the windshield towels and bug buckets(the windshield cleaner fluid), and clean the sidewalk/grassy area. The company expects me to do all of this by myself, yet I cannot even leave the register for the first 2 and a half hours and my shift, and depending on what day it is, all I can do from 4:00 am to 6:00 am is stock cigarettes, make coffee, and fill up the change machine for the next shift because of the morning rush.

Pros

A lot of very nice people, if you're in the right department.

Cons

Vp/C-Suite Leadership is not present. Only managers or Sr managers are allowed to speak to Sr Leadership. Everything and everyone has a gatekeeper. IT Infrastructure Leadership has a 'do as I say not as I do' attitude and has openly stated that managers and leads should not work, but instead get employees to do the work for them. This same leadership uses a carrot-on-a-stick approach with promotions , coaxing employees into taking actions they wouldn't otherwise, because the employee thinks they will be rewarded with that new title and pay raise. Except there is never a reward, just a bigger carrot and an admonishing that the employee didn't try hard enough. The politics of this place are toxic. Some managers do not posess the technical knowledge to fulfill their roles. Double standards abound. Leaders hire and promote favorites, cronyism is the norm. Stonewalling and deflection are standard operating procedure and accepted as such. Contractors are treated like worthless workhorses to be discarded when they're no longer needed or buck at the poor management style, meanwhile employees can go MIA for days on end with no reprisal.

Pros

Weekly pay, working your way up is easy.

Cons

You will be alone. A lot. Worked for Speedway for 2 years and more often than not I was alone every Saturday (one of the busiest days for a gas station). No discounts for employees. Ever. Larger than life expectations. Prepare to sweep, mop, check dates, check temps, stock the cooler, do inside/outside trash, clean the pumps, stock the towels outside, stock the windshield washer fluid, clean the cappuccino machine, clean the drip trays, stock the lids, cups, straws, sugar/creamer, chili/cheese, clean the FUBs, clean the iced coffee nozzles, the fountain nozzles, clean the oven, clean the roller grill/bullpen, the microwave that people just destroy because surprisingly nobody owns a microwave at their house, clean up after customers because the trash can is just such an inconvenience to them, clean the bathrooms, break down the truck, put in invoices which you better get right to a T or your GM will be all over you over $0.10, write offs for out of dates which if there is too many write offs your overall store score will go down (like it's the employees fault for customers not buying protein bars), never any time off unless you request it and boy you better be ready with an answer as to why because your GM can take 1-3 weeks off no questions asked but if you want a Saturday off, BOI you better have that written statement from Jesus himself. Other workers are incompetent and will make mistakes 24/7. Third shift RARELY shows up on time/at all. Pulled many 15 hour shifts because of a no call no show.
