Pros

- Exciting satellite work with collaboration opportunities with other departments - hands-on with real space hardware - Talented and supportive colleagues - Holidays package - Competitive salaries

Cons

- Perceptions of nepotism and personal friendships influencing decisions creating doubts about fairness and limited opportunities for those not in those circles. - inefficient team structure - many layers of managements within departments with undefined roles other than just titles. - Egomaniacs - leads often refuse change and promote a toxic culture, which stiffle innovation and undermines capable staff from promoting new change - Lack of transparency in the promotion process. A new promotion matrix was introduced about 2 years ago where performance is rated against contribution and company values. When I asked for feedback on how to improve my “company values” score, I was given examples of colleagues seen as role models, but no clear or actionable guidance on what I could do differently at my own level. - certain departments pay the price for other departments meaning you would normally be expected to work weekends and longer shifts to rectify issues that were meant to be captured before production. - You are tracked around the office via an app you need to enter the office - Retaliations are common. I've often raised issues about certain aspects in the team and rather than working towards change, I would see actions of retaliations for bringing an issue forward. - Management tries to hire more bodies to address ever growing production while failing to address the real bottleknecks in production can be frustrating. How can one hire more chefs for the same kitchen that may only have 1 oven and 1 cooker? - You may become the scapegoat. Management will always protect certain individuals and themselves even if there are evidence they are at fault. - E-staff are extremely disconnected with the process

Pros

> Compensation is competitive (not worth it, as others have said) For incoming employees, if you do decide to stomach the negatives, ask for as much money as possible because, chances are, you're not getting any raises/promotions. Just ask ANY of your interviewers when was the last time they got a raise :) > Excellent facilities

Cons

> Management shields unacceptable behaviour - Multiple complaints about harassment were met with indifference with management explicitly prioritising internal politics/convenience over employee wellbeing and safety > Unlimited holiday policy in name only - In reality, time off is tightly controlled. Managers reference “team averages” and discourage taking more than the norm, undermining the entire purpose of the policy. This is one of the metrics also used in salary/promotion cycles > Blame culture - Management is far more focused on assigning fault than solving problems > Top heavy structure - Company is not big enough for so many managers who also have unclear roles which lead to managers micromanaging day to day work > Surveillance-style management - Management uses phone tracking to monitor office attendance, and this data is used during salary/promotion cycles. It’s a deeply mistrustful and childish approach that reflects more on leadership's insecurities than employee accountability. The hypocrisy is hard to ignore, as many members of senior leadership work remotely themselves, yet still enforce these measures on office-based staff. This creates a culture of control, not collaboration as they will try to gaslight you to believe > Overloaded teams - Burnout is very common due to extremely poor management and unrealistic timelines > Lack of transparency - Repeated false promises regarding promotions, pay reviews, and benefits as there is no clear progression path. They keep coming up with arbitrary and ever-changing performance metrics that seem designed more to justify withholding raises and promotions than to support meaningful development > Technical stagnation - Long tenured leads often resist change and promote a toxic "we know better" culture, which undermines innovation and demoralizes capable staff > Disconnected strategy - Priorities shift constantly and initiatives and re-orgs are often out of touch with the actual needs of the projects/staff > Non-inclusive leadership - Lack of diversity from middle management upward. Opportunities often appear influenced more by personal relationships rather than merit (incompetence is rewarded)

Pros

Spire as a space services company has a great opportunity to reap rewards from the experience that it has built in nano satellite manufacturing and operation for earth sensors.

Cons

Spire is blinkered by the chief executives dogged determination to stick with weather forecasting products when there is no commercial success or likelyhood of profitable market fit. This drags down the parts of the business that would make it successful longer term. Also the emotional intelligence on how to handle changes is continually poorly lacking. Disappointing and glad now to be free having moved onn.
