Pros

(Concern the weather BU) High tech company willing to establish itself in the already cluttered cheap sat data market. They follow the public grants trends and directions in the sector. They allow deap research and development. So it might be a good environment for academic scientist whilling to join the industry.

Cons

(Concern the weather BU) It's strenght of allowing such deap uncontrolled R&D comes with the cost that the scientific developments often remain trapped in a perpetual state of refinement, never deemed market-ready, due to the absence of a competent product management. In addition this company perfectly examplifies Peter's principle. In Spire, individuals are routinely promoted way beyond their level of competence, and despite evident lack of results, are kept in place. This dynamic has the consequence of pushing away the actual contributors, fostering an extremly toxic culture in which meaningful work and carreer advancement are mutually exclusive. As a result, the company becomes dominated by unacountable and ineffectual managers within a culture that lacks achievement or execution, glued to their seat thanks to a higher than average compensation package (for Lux office).

Pros

Space projects are very interesting by definition

Cons

Terrible experience, obvious degradation of the management if it was good at all; those people do not know the standards and just qualification is very questionable, they are not competent and not professional.Communication is terrible, lots of arrogance with respect to subordinates. Would give negative stars rating if such option existed

Pros

The work at Spire is awesome. Not only is the subject matter impactful and game changing, but the stack is also cutting edge. Any time that I talk to anyone about what I do, they are immediately interested, and I could excitedly babble on about it for hours. The technical staff in engineering are competent and a pleasure to work with. The work is also challenging - I view this as a positive. There's so much to learn, and you'll (almost) never be bored.

Cons

Spire tends to be unable to retain some of the most technically talented and impactful people. Their compensation structure heavily relies on stock grants that are basically worthless at the moment, and they do not give raises or promotions to anyone outside high-level management (that I have witnessed in 4 yrs). They just let people leave. This leads to large parts of the system going un-owned until they need to be changed or supported, at which point, they are thrown on to the nearest technically-adjacent team. Contracts are signed without consulting engineering. This leads to massive friction between e-staff and engineering, and costs the company dearly in some cases. Sometimes people in higher level engineering positions pretend to understand the underlying systems more than they do. This is likely because things change so quickly to meet business needs, there is an inherent lack of understanding, but there is also a lack of trust when they are given suggestions by staff. There is a huge amount of tech debt, because the focus is always on the next business need. Not the kind of tech debt that builds an ivory tower when completed - the kind that makes a satellite inoperable for days/weeks when it happens.
