Pros

Even though SLUHN is a large care system, I experience it as a close knit, family-like atmosphere which I prefer over the very cold corporate administrative experience at LVHN. However, I do believe that both systems offer high quality care. Also, its nice to see the network finally ramp up some benefits for the clinical staff even if it has come too late for some.

Cons

Benefit package is expensive and not as comprehensive as I wish. Insurance was not accepted in many places. We will be joining with Geisinger in the new year...hoping it will be better. Also, as is very typical of the Lehigh Valley in general, RN pay scales still lag far behind our neighbors down the road in Bucks and Montgomery Counties and Easton Hospital.

Pros

Some individual providers and staff members are dedicated and make working there better. There are certainly qualified medical professionals that are very skilled and do amazing work.

Cons

There are unqualified individuals in overpaid positions. They do not have MBA's and some have the bare minimal education. They are most definitely " players" in the management game. There are non medical managers overseeing big medical areas of operations and they are just unqualified for these positions. Additionally, there are many for-profit activities going on in what is proclaimed to be non- profit medicine. There are major decisions being made by unqualified people. It is very sad. Find another hospital. The management is terrible. They have no regard for patient care or safety. If the bottom line is set: They meet it at all cuts and cost. It is shameful.
