Pros

Flexible work schedule and straight pay for overtime hours

Cons

"Inclusive" hiring and promoting policies aimed to hold men back in the name of diversity. There were multiple meetings where they would talk about the problems with men in leadership roles and their support for policies aimed at replacing men in those roles. They were somewhat discrete about these policies but since they are publicly traded and since those ideas are popular, they have to do it. For many this is a benefit, but if you are a talented young man who is looking at his career prospects, you deserve better than Stantec. They will treat you and talk about you like you are not a human but instead some kind of problem. Saying things like "there is no room for anyone who does not support our values" as a veiled threat to let you know that if you want to keep supporting your family, you cannot speak up for yourself. It is horribly demoralizing and it weighed on my heart every day that I was there. Beyond that, this company thrives on positive brand recognition and not on quality. I have worked a number of places and Stantec had an extraordinary lack of concern for producing quality work. They are internally disjointed and dysfunctional with very few people understanding how to navigate their systems. People tend to disappear into the woodwork and so they have a problem with a large number of apathetic employees. They have no consistent or standardized review process and often produce work that goes unchecked. However, they thrive on purchasing work through acquisitions and then spreading that work out to a massive global team. They are able to produce work at a remarkable rate but in many cases they will throw 20 employees at a project with each not fully understanding what is being done.

Pros

The benefits were ok -- standard for a large company. ESPP is nice.

Cons

Too much emphasis on billable hours. The environment is competitive and not collaborative because everyone is trying to milk billable hours from their clients. PMs are encouraged to take on more work than they can handle, which leads to poor quality of work. No QA process or checks in place. Too much paperwork. High turnover from the top-down. It has been a revolving door of unstable leadership. Those left in management aren't necessarily the best managers, just those that decided to stick around.
