Pros

Good benefits, convenient work locations.

Cons

Double standards, claim that they do what is right, however the truth is they count the breath you take. Client needs aren't met often without a hefty price to pay. Staff gets the negative, bosses get the glory.

Stantec is corporate heavy.

Pros

There are some genuinely good hardworking surveyors, engineers and managers who deserve to be acknowledged and rewarded. The only good thing about this company is 10 paid holidays.

Cons

It’s all about looking good on paper. Upper Management doesn’t quite care about the employees as long as the money keeps coming. Performance is not appreciated at all. Raises are very minimal for regular employees and bonuses are only for the upper management. Employee retention is a BIG problem because of lack of appreciation for hard work. Stantec has an yearly performance review system in place which is a JOKE. Hourly Employees are rewarded with raises as little as a few cents. The benefits are very sub-standard. Stantec really needs to talk more to its employees about their goals and career objectives like they care, not just to satisfy some corporate paperwork requirement.

Bureaucracy to the max

Pros

Highly intelligent, experienced professionals at the "production" level. People that, if you left out all the peripherals (culture, management, pay, etc.) you would want to work with simply because they know their disciplines. Decent pay for my area.

Cons

Bureaucracy rules, productivity drools. While I ran into the occasional manager who looked out for their people, maybe 10% of their "leadership" is comprised of actual leaders. Despite multiple employee surveys that showed low morale and an office on the downslide, management simply refused to listen to the suggestions offered by employees. Not interested in exploring or leveraging the latest technology. An obscene amount of money and effort go into marketing "values" and "workplace culture" - to the employees. Snazzy office spaces do not make up for not getting your employees the basic things they need, like safety training, decent equipment, and a way to navigate the incredibly restrictive bureaucrats. When you force employees to put thousands of dollars on their credit card for remote trips (no such thing as company cards here) and then delay payment, don't be surprised when they get upset...
