Pros

I'm sure there were some. Worked with great people, not necessarily great management. Time off at Christmas was nice.

Cons

Company constantly acquiring new smaller firms instead of trying to grow internally. A result of acquisitions is a constant influx of smaller company top brass becoming senior members of Stantec and reducing opportunities of current employees to climb corporate ladder. Firm is more concerned with stock price than the it's employees even though the corporate motto is "employees first" . Raises, bonuses, promotions are based on each business centers profitability not the company as a whole, and/or one's hard work, even through all the senior management aren't held to same billable standards as the junior folks who work their tails off to balance the books. There is a lot of lip service to managing ones career but there is not much help and/or guidance provided by the company. A lot of money is spent on PR to give the illusion of the company caring about their employees but the reality is quite the opposite, at least in the business center I was part of. And that may very well be the case as depending on whom who talk to, business centers (divisions) seem to operate differently depending on who the BC lead is and what their beliefs (not the companies) are and how much of an annual bonus they stand to make by keeping costs down and profits up.

Pros

Excellent corporate culture, great portfolio, strong social interaction and better diversity than most companies. Enabling employees to pursue what they want. Really excellent healthcare team, by far the best.

Cons

VOA now Stantec in Chicago is a great company but depending upon the studio you are a part of they struggle with mentor ship. Projects will be passed between 5-6 PM's and lots of details can get lost in the process. People come and go often and those who stay are not the best or brightest.

Pros

I worked a wonderful group of team members who have become friends of mine. We were a little unit that helped and cheered each other on. For that reason, I think the team thrived and created such a great environment to be apart of.

Cons

I worked closely with a group of engineers (I was apart of the admin staff) that were basically bullies. There's no other way around it. They would turn content in late without communicating and would do last minute edits that would push back other deadlines and when a debrief was scheduled, one of the project managers tried to intimate me into not having the meeting. One of them approached me while I was on a conference call and proceeded to lunge at me when I told him that I couldn't talk at that moment but would find him later. After relaying this to my boss (who I thought I could trust), I ended up getting written up and nothing happened to him. The harassment repeated for months without my boss doing anything to stop it and I ended up contacting HR. Three days later I was fired and the reason given was "it wasn't working out".
