The number of times I was working on a project that was deemed critical that found itself being relegated to an afterthought is too many to count. Despite superficial lip service to becoming a hub to technology, internal systems were fairly outdated with a no first attitude towards improving them. As is typical with large companies, the leadership activities and constant restructurings is positively medieval with new dukes and princes (VP's) rising and developing legions of sycophants only to eventually implode under the weight of their own inflated legend while the focus for the day to day operators that drive the company's success remains impossible to pin down.
