Pros

good pay and good benefits. mild retail environment with the exception of back to school.

Cons

There is no recognition for a job well done. No feedback from my district manager on ways to improve personal growth. The regional vice president believes in intimidation as opposed to inspiring and motivating. This trickles down to the district management team and ultimately inot the stores. There has been about a fifty percent turnover at the general manager level over the last 3 years since she joined the company. The hours are long, 10 hour days.

Pros

Solid track record and competent executive leadership. Decent job security depending on position within the company. Company has great operational procedures that protect assets and retain profits (if executed). Communication from home office is usually very detailed and competent (despite always sugar coating the real reason something is being done or changed). Home office responds quickly to issues raised through stores. Most isolated issues at a store level are resolved twenty four to fourty eight hours later. There are many talented and respectable people working for the company. Compensation seems to be inline with the market, but alway could be better!

Cons

the numberone thing i hate is the busy work that managers are given to do each day/week. there are reports that have to be submitted constantly, but these are reports that are redundant and useless because our IT systems automatically compile the data. needless to say, when one of these reports is missing, or late its a big pointless issue. regional mgmnt loves to punish the masses for the shortcomings of a few locations. ancilliary policies constanty come and go based on knee jerk reactions of what is seen at a few stores. regional managment also need to stay consistent and foucused. each week there is a new mission critical metric that we will live and die by, then the next week its something else

Pros

Staples is a great place to work. It culture strikes a good a balance between work & life. There are very good chances for growth within the company & movement across different departments is strongly encouraged. Staples also puts a lot of emphasis on looking after our surroundings, it regularly goes out of it's way to help the communities around it's offices & stores. the best part of the company is that it's very innovative & encourages it's employees to do the same.

Cons

The compensation is very low and the tuition reimbursement plan has to one of the worst I have come across for such large company.
