Pros

I have meant some great employees while working there. At this time, they still offer a pension plan. The benefits are competitive, although they used to be better.

Cons

Short staffed, which attributes to irate customers. No work life balance. Micro-managed with metrics that are almost impossible to achieve. Workforce management dictates what time to answer phones each day (3 hour phone blocks every day), and what time to go to lunch. During the phone blocks you are expected to also do your work while taking phone calls.

Pros

The hourly wage is decent compared to similar jobs Four weeks of vacation day one which generates hourly They will pay for some community colleges directly Tuition reimbursement is available in all areas for an Associates, Bachelors, and Masters degree

Cons

The managers stick together and will blacklist you should you ever “cross” them You will constantly be threatened to improve or be disciplined and terminated They say it’s all about customer service but the metrics are a reminder that you want to stay employed The company could care less if you stay or if you go; you have absolutely no value to the corporation, fall in line or leave You get 2 unpaid sick days The medical insurance has the worst coverage I’ve ever seen and the cost is egregious The low level management lacks ethics Low level management is not punished for poor behavior The open door policy is a sham and you will be targeted by low level management if you go above their head The entire enterprise lacks communication between management, associates, and even State Farm Agents.

Pros

The people- those still here- are what has made State Farm a great place to work all of these years. Large company with financially secure portfolio Mutual company not driven on the market They used to set the standard

Cons

Micromanagement and not understanding the story behind the metrics being generated. Living and dying by the metrics. So caught up in the execution of metrics they have trampled employees in the process and ran a substantial number of excellent employees (long term) out the door. Massive talent gap going to hit them in the very near future when their 20+ yr employees exit the company. Very siloed. In an effort to break down walls in between areas, they created more. Not agile or mobile @ all. Catastrophe response has suffered due to incompetent independents hired. Employees used to be considered a major asset and now they are widgets who accomplish a task for the company. Customer service has suffered dramatically because of it. Standard used to be set by SF, but they have lost their direction in trying to be something that they are not. They mass-marketed a product that didn’t fit the frequent shopper customer in the industry and their AOP is suffering greatly because of it. The only thing keeping them afloat is sound investments, but that only lasts as long as the market continues to skyrocket. It will crash @ some point.
