Pros

Work from home flexibility is nice, but that is where the benefits end.

Cons

Everything is outsourced. On boarding is a nightmare, with different parts of IT outsourced to different companies, and they are the worst. Even HR is outsourced, and they fail to provide on-boarding documentation required by law. Business is doing soo poorly due to mismanagement, that compensation increases (raises/bonuses) are non-existent. No technical direction from management. Infrastructure (hardware/software) is soo old, you literally need to run a 4 year old web browser to use some applications. Desks are tiny, as to cut costs, they have crammed staff into a single floor. Flat org, so no opportunity for advancement.

Pros

Paycheck every two weeks is nice.

Cons

Communication is poor. Money wasted on projects that are never finished. Does not invest in people. No development dollars put towards tech advancements. Upward mobility promised but never delivered.

Dead End Career

Pros

Solid Benefits (at least when I was there), entry level exposure to financial markets, and good internal checks and balances (ie SOCII compliance and HR procedures)

Cons

Employees who work outside the Boston area often feel like they've been relegated to a 2nd class status. The constantly shrinking industry meant wave after wave of layoffs, downsizing, and even large scale pay-cuts. After 7 years at this company, with positive reviews each year, my salary only had increased 1.6% per year on average. Stay at this company long enough and you will slowly be locked out of consideration for other employment as career growth at State Street means something difference versus the rest of the job market.
