Insurance, work from home sometimes.

Cons

No State Retirement, No PTO, No job security, OPS positions in State of Florida last years and are not temp like designed, so essentially you are doing the same work as Career Service position, just not the pay. The State does not pay into your social security. 3 percent of your pay goes into a required retirement system. When the Govenor changes your entire department will change. It's hard to have a vision for the department and work towards it. Constant putting out of fires due to not enough staff.

Pros

Ability to practice pure law without the necessity of marketing or billable hours. Working with some like minded attorneys who were willing to trade off the high salary in private practice in order to produce high quality work and engage in public service work.

Cons

Low salary and no appreciation for those who consistently performed quality work. Too much politics and nepotism. There was absolutely no incentive to keep up the performance so you had to find satisfaction in a job well done and in maintaining your reputation apart from the office.

The best position I ever had. Sadly, I left for more money and found out, "the grass isn't always greener" on the other side. In my case, the salary I switched for wasn't worth it. I am trying to get back in now but having a difficult time. If you land a job with The State of Fl, count yourself lucky and don't let it go. The benefits are beyond compare to any place I've ever worked and your share out of pocket is so low, you don't really notice it at all.

Cons

The salary is pathetic. They are not competitive with your free enterprise salaries.
