Pros

Stevens is very concerned with safety and look out for their drivers in that aspect...sometimes too much lol. They want you to follow the HOS regulations and don't force you into doing anything. I've stopped to "fight fatigue" a few times knowing that my load might be late, but Stevens is more concerned that I don't harm myself or others. They use trans flow, which is relatively convenient compared to a lot of other weird ways I hear other guys get paid. They fix whatever needs to be fixed whenever with no hassle... never ask you to run illegally. DOT looks past you, prefers to hassle swift drivers and independent owner operators. You sometimes get opportunities to come off the road and work at home in Dallas. They look to hire people within the company for positions like that. Not trigger happy on firing people. I mean, if you get fired, it's because you had a serious accident usually. Top notch equipment. Many options for change or advancement.

Cons

Stevens pays on the lower scale of truck companies. When I tell other truckers that I work for Stevens, they apologize to me for ever asking who I worked for in the first place. When I hear other truckers talking about how much they make at truck stops, it seems like they all make more than I do. I've had to deal with repowers or dispatches that seemed to have somebody else's interest in mind. You have to go back to the yard all the time to do safety talks, re-checks, training, etc.

We are happy to hear the positivity towards our company as a leader in Driver Safety as it is a large focus for us! We have many experienced drivers that have been with us 10+ years. We are currently working hard to become an employer of choice and thank you for your feedback. We are an industry leader in miles per dispatch and pay our drivers based on those miles. There are a lot of benefits to driving for Stevens, including excellent equipment as well as our Alliance program which helps company drivers transition to becoming financially independent as an owner/operator and meet their own financial goals.

Pros

Break into the trucking industry, if you have no better oportunities

Cons

My tax return for a full 12 months, $17,000. Lots and lots of unpaid time waiting at shippers and recievers, truck stops waiting for a load. Their recruiters are bald faced liers. They con their newbie drivers into their .85 per mile lease deal. I've meet a few that told me that they were in the rears. Nice, working 70 hours a week and owing them money. They're vampires.
