Pros

I worked for SunTrust for more than four years. The first time I worked for them I worked for three years and returned and worked for them for a little more than a year. BIG MISTAKE! I worked in the call center and the environment is TOXIC at best. The managers are overworked and mostly not a good fit for their positions. I have worked better than 10 years for another bank. I can tell you in comparison that SunTrust doesn't treat their employees well. I was having a major surgery and was advised to be off work prior to surgery but I didn't want to take the time off. I even committed to working many hours of overtime to help with the work load. As a matter of fact I worked 17 straight days with no time off leading up to surgery. Four days before my surgery I had 45 minutes left in my shift, I was extremely sick all day and felt I had went as far as I could. I went to my manager to let her know I was leaving early for that day and why but she actually guilted me into staying the rest of the shift. I was miserable. During that last 45 minutes I had a monitored phone call that I got a considered 'failed' which never happened to me before. The failure was because I my tone wasn't 'cheery' enough and I placed a customer on hold for too long. The long pause was due to my health at the time. Such a shame. I am a grown woman who never missed work, I was never late and I made my quotas but SunTrust thought their agenda of course was more important than my health.

Cons

I paid for Long-Term disability out of my pocket, I provided three medical opinions saying I was unable to work following the surgery yet my claim was denied and benefits were stopped. SunTrust uses a questionable 3rd party administrator whose job is to save SunTrust money, their name is Sedgwick. Whatever you do, I'd avoid working for any company that used Sedgwick for administration of claims. Then, SunTrust ignores you and puts you out to pasture once they let Sedgwick do the dirty work for them. Why offer a benefit that you are going to do your best to wiggle out of? It is absolutely disgusting. Do a search on the web using Sedgwick and lawsuits and you will see what I mean.

Pros

Benefits were very good, particularly on bank and bank-related products. There were promotional opportunities, however, management is very particular about who they will consider to move up based on past experiences, current responsibilities, etc. I thought my teammates were great - good family-style dynamics and a desire and willingness to help one another.

Cons

Procedures were often unnecessarily complicated. For those teammates that were unhelpful and/or reluctant to help - they were truly unhelpful and reluctant - almost to the point of it being its own sport. There are a number of micr-managers, which can be truly maddening as they will not see the forrest for the trees.
