Pros

They promote first from within. You can literally start at the bottom and work your way up to Executive Director. You don't need a CNA to be a caregiver, there is tuition reimbursement. It is a good place to get started in the medical field before you have a degree or certification-- or if you have a degree or certification but no experience. Benefits available for part timers working 20hrs or more. The facilities are beautiful. It has the potential to be a great job if the management has their ducks in a row. The training is set up well, the policies are good, if they are followed. Has the potential to be a good job.

Cons

They stress the "2nd paycheck" -- feeling good about helping the elderly as compensation for the low pay- a nice idea, but it makes it very difficult to hire quality, qualified individuals. Chronically understaffed at many facilities. Over promise what they can deliver in many areas. Revolving door of staff. Will put additional pressure to work additional hours, wherever they need you- even if you are not experienced in that area. Everyone except the coordinators are hired as part timers. If you are hired as a coordinator beware. you are on call 24/7 and many coordinators work 12 -16 hr days, for long stretches without days off because of staffing issues. They call it dedication, it can be exploitation. The coordinators are bogged down with endless paperwork, which could be easily streamlined-- using computers and computer programs that are waay too old.

Pros

I absolutely loved working with seniors and their families. Enjoyed time with my co-workers Received a paycheck Dog-friendly

Cons

Expect salaried employees to work everyday of the week. No work-life balance. Terrible senior management. No communication Caregivers do not do their job because they are not paid well and under valued - hard to sell a community when everyone hates their job!
