Pros

If you somehow manage to get converted from being a temp worker, and fly under the radar, you can join the senior staff in doing no work for minimal pay. No layoffs, free breakfast item, weekly fruit, free dinner if you do overtime. 9-6 with 1 hour lunch break.

Cons

Very set in old ways. Some procedures have not been updated, seemingly since the department was founded. You will hear a lot of "this is just how it's done" or "that's our policy," no matter what your advice or previous experience is. Leadership is very poor. Depending on which team you're on, you will either have an inexperienced leader who was promoted without development, or an aggressive, abusive manager who will set you up for failure. This seems global across the company, with many others complaining about their managers, poor expectations, poor work balances, and extreme favoritism. Technology is very outdated for the scale they are trying to work at. Solutions are developed internally, without checking against industry standards or known pitfalls. If you're coming from another company, it means none of you previously learned lessons will be listened to. Almost everyone is hired as a temp. HR reports 6 to 9 months for conversion, but actually takes 12 to 18 months. You're likely to end up on the bad side of your manager and having your contract terminated before that. Pay is poor, raises are poor, and you shouldn't expect a bonus. The performance system is on a scale of 1 to 5 but you're not allowed to be ranked higher than a 4. This results in everyone being around 2.5 to 3, too low for promotions, raises, or bonuses. You will not receive objective reasoning for this. All of the above leads into the worst con: very high turnover rates. You are not guaranteed a consistent mentor, or team. Everyone may quit or be fired within a period of 6 months. This results in work assignments constantly being shuffled around, or single competent individuals being overworked. It will be very hard to learn the what's and the why's, and you won't know you did something wrong until your manager pulls you into a 1 on 1 to grill you for it.
