Pros

There is no pro of working here at ALL.

Cons

My first day I only had a desk and chair.. NO LAPTOP, COMPUTER SCREENS, MOUSE, KEYBOARD, AND NOTHING!!! I can't believed on my first day I HAVE to talk to the IT to get it all sort it out. I can't believe my manager did not help get everything set up. Oh Training? No such thing, My manager didn't want to help me. I had to find help and beg my co workers who are on the other teams to help me. MY OWN MANAGER didn't want to help me what is up with that?! Why are you even a manager? Management team sucks here, PLEASE PROMOTE HARDWORKING AND HONEST WORKERS NOT BECAUSE THEY HAVE BEEN HERE FOR A LONG TIME. The rule here is you can't switch in to a different departments or move up unless you've been here for two years. What on earth is that kind of rule is that?!? This is why majority of the people here are lazy and slow... working here reminds me of the DMV. The work culture? I can't believe all the things I hear and seen of manager backstabbing their team mates, and gossip about each other. This is why working here is such a mess nobody gets a long with each other. There is no team player here. There is so many times when I was given assignments from my co-worker while I was working on their assignment. They would be taking nap on the desk! What type of co workers would do that to you. Everyday at work, I'd hear manager and co- workers yelled and scream at each other. HR don't do anything or care. If you speak Mandarin you can survive being here, but if you don't GOOD LUCK. Protect your mental health and don't even come here. Don't walk, but RUN away from this company!!

Pros

Not many companies are out there if you want to learn 101 of hardware engineering at the board level.

Cons

That's about it. No path to growth for engineers. I was there for a long time, and although I left, I loved the people I worked with, including my bosses, so I do mean this. Hardware companies grow at a much slower pace, and Supermicro is extra conservative, but that's ok, the company is still growing and does have a niche. But people, especially older people who's been there for a long time got too comfortable with what they've been doing and stopped learning. Hence, they can't move to other companies. Their title and skills don't match, and they can't keep up with other fast past SV-style companies. That's ok too, they've been there for a long time, and they've earned it. They are like government employees. The problem is that they are blocking all the young engineers' careers. To young engineers starting: learn how it gets done, develop relationships with vendors/clients (they are mostly fortune 500), and move on. Sales/client-facing side seemed better, at least in this aspect.

Pros

Supermicro has a solid product.

Cons

Expect long working hours as a result of (1) having to use and navigate through outdated and unintuitive CRM so you'll need to leverage heavily on Excel sheets; (2) constant mandatory, time-consuming meetings because of the nature of the business (new versions/iterations of hardware/software and processes); (3) email and process overload, and daunting approval requirement from multiple departments to fulfill accounting/finance requests; (4) fighting with other teams (who may be using reseller channels) to win business from the client. Disingenuous salespeople with lack of integrity and trust (upper management included) because it's all numbers game. More so than at other companies, people in every department have the "what do you want" mentality when approached for help due to a constant influx of tasks. Turn-over rates are high. No doubt a large portion of open positions is to replace employees who have left for a better opportunity because they're fed up with the company as a whole. Advice to new hires: keep a record of every transaction/incident to protect yourself.
