Pros

There are few pros to working here, but if you happen to be liked by the art director, you will have a lot of opportunities to design. That's not a guarantee however, because there is no logic to who will be favored in the design department. It's not based on performance or talent- it seems to be based on a magical quality you will have no control over.

Cons

if you take a designer job here, most likely you will find yourself walking on eggshells, wondering why you are being treated as sub-human when you're a talented designer, do great designs, extend yourself as much as possible, work overtime, and generally work your tail off. It's not personal, you are just not 'liked', and many find themselves in that position through no fault of their own. It is a very demeaning place to work. If you value your talent, your education and your future- don't do it.

Pros

Great Co-Workers in the, this-is-horrible-so-you-bond-just-to-make-it-through sort of way. There are so little Pros I have to type this sentence to meet the minimum. Every employee is looking for a way out.

Cons

"Management" and "Leadership" is a joke and does not exist within this company whatsoever. Everything is made up on the spot, there is very obviously ZERO planning for the future of the company or employees and client base. Management routinely ignores your messages and is out of touch. Pay and PTO is a joke and frequently below standards, the bonus structure and goal target changes weekly, and more is always asked of you while nothing is ever given in return. Zero opportunities for growth or significant knowledge or skill gain here, as Surya is too busy tripping over its own feet and randomly purging its workforce for new "initiatives" that flare out within a month because no one put any thought into the new program beyond the initial idea. Did I mention the poor communication? Frequently changes are made, and it takes 2-3 weeks for the rest of the company to even realize these were made, as it was not communicated in an effective way, or to anyone outside of management. Surya routinely disparages its own client base, and has severe shipping and warehouse problems. Be prepared for a large portion of you clients to receive the incorrect product, it get lost in the warehouse, or take weeks past the ETA given to the clients to actually arrive. Guess who that's going to be blamed on? Young Women out there: You are the dating pool for portions of management. Be prepared for that "attention".

Pros

A very stimulating environment. Creatively a great place to work as there is no direction. This allows for a great amount of creative energy. The company has great product for the most part. The rugs are their strong point. The home accessories need to be accessed as they aren't much different from what you could get at TJ MAX for a much lower cost. The people on my team were extremely good at what they do.

Cons

Management has a very narrow view of what they could be. That want to be big but don't support creative in acheiving their goals. There are no budgets and no clear ideas of how the company is moving forward to be what they want. The company has become too big to be run like a small company. The management team has no faith in the people they hire, although those people are very competent. To attract the right talent the company needs to be more centrally located the commute is terrible.
