Pros

A pro of working for this company : If you are an Indian or hispanic MALE you will more than likely never get fired. If you never want a raise and feel comfortable being "forced" to quit then this is the job for you!

Cons

Don't EVER make this company more successful or finish a project early. As soon as they are doing good because of YOU they let you go so they do not have to pay you anymore. If you are trained by some air-head blonde who has only been there 8 months and you are not trained properly it IS still your fault you do not know what to do. Don't ever try to stick up for yourself and prove something was not your fault because with all the proof in the world, you are still the person who made the mistake. Your boss may not have a clue what she is doing, ever, and when you ask her a question she will tell you to ask someone else because she does not know the answer ( EVER). Everyone here thinks they are better than you and can push you around even if you have 4 times the experience they have! And people who are involved in"relations" with the "higher ups" get promoted even if they are the dullest crayons in the box. If you work in customer service, well you are in the wrong place! Everything is always your fault, noone has time to help you or act like you even exist, and your boss will be someone who doesn't even know what "Customer Relations" means. This is the worst place to work, this company needs to be shut down by OSHA for all the safety violations and needs to be investigated for all the money they don't pay when they say they will! Don't ever take your vacation days because they wont pay you for them! And don't ever write down your hours if the clock is not working because then they don't pay you either! Advice: Go work at McDonald's or become a stripper, you still get more respect and training than you ever will at Surya rugs!

Surya appreciates you taking the time to provide feedback. Within the past few months, our customer service department has gone through changes to help ensure the right people are in the right roles. Surya is proud of the opportunities we offer to all people, including and without exception, women, and all other minority groups, as well as men.

Pros

The company is young and is growing. Yes on your first day you might not be introduced, walked around, or even have your computer properly installed. On the flip side on day one you are given responsibilities you may have never received in your 8-5 cubicle job right after graduating from college. I left a corporate job to come to Surya and don't ever regret my decision. Where else can you work where you are allowed to be creative, and forward thinking along with working with the best retailers in the industry? To the people who have complained about the long market hours... this is something you will find in every wholesale company. During these long hours spent at market it is not all work there are also enjoyable moments. Remember when the whole team went to cirque du soleil, played laser tag in the showroom, or was taken to dinner multiple times? Like I said Surya is a great company but maybe not a great fit for everyone. If you don't have a passion for the industry maybe Surya isn't right for you.

Cons

Salary/ incentives are not competitive with the rest of the industry, commute, & cramped office (this is due to the growth of the company). Even with this being said I would still recommend Surya .

We appreciate your comments and completely agree - Surya is not a place for everyone, but for the right person, it is a wonderful opportunity to have fun, use your talents, work hard, spend long hours with other creative people, and make a difference. Surya recently hired a Director of Human Resources, who is putting together a team of professionals to help ensure employees have the information and the tools needed from their very first day.

Pros

It is a job and it paid the bills, but I hated it every day. You will definitely have overtime, but don't expect to be patted on the back for volunteering to work extra!

Cons

If you plan to get a job here you better freshen up on your brown-nosing techniques. If you suck up, you are above the rules. The supervisors do not talk to each other so you may have one supervisor tell you to do something, and then your immediate supervisor will yell at you for doing it. There's a complete lack of respect between the supervisors and the employees. The CS supervisor will yell at you and talk down to you in front of ALL of your peers. She couldn't care less unless you kiss her butt. The same rules don't apply to everybody. There are several people that could have horrible attendance (I'm talking calling in at least once a week) and multiple order entry errors and nothing was said to them because they kissed up to the CS Supervisor. Others, like me, would be there every day, and work weekends voluntarily to catch us up and were still chastised and would be made to feel dumb for stupid things. If you have the option to work somewhere other than here, take it. Oh and there's no HR department to report any of this too. Good luck!

In early 2015, Surya hired a Director of Human Resources who, along with all others in the leadership roles, encourages employees to openly discuss concerns.
