      altruism, great cause, some great people

      Komen's founder destroyed the organization in 2012. It hasn't recovered since and never will. Currently, the place is in total disarray. It's a true dog eat dog environment as everybody desperately tries to keep the place afloat. Management is atrocious - they can barely get along with each other much less their own teams. The incessantly poor decisions they make leave everyone scratching their heads wondering then the next layoff will occur. It's a revolving door of incompetence at the top levels. The ship has already sunk. It's only a matter of time before Komen announces they're closing their doors. Stay away. If Breast Cancer is your cause, go to BCRF.

      As this feedback is anonymous it is hard to tell how long ago you worked at Komen. The organization has not been destroyed, in fact continues to be the largest funder of breast cancer research outside the federal government. In addition, Komen is the only breast cancer non-profit that tackles this awful disease from all perspectives: research, care, community and action. It is also important to note that Komen HQ's tenure and turnover are better than benchmarks. This ship is not sinking but is committed now more than ever to finding cures. Our bold goal of reducing the number of breast cancer deaths by 50% by 2026 is our main focus and we are making progress towards that goal. We are united and will not stop until we reach our goal.

      Great mission, dedicated staff. Loved the interaction with the affiliates.

      Cons

      Board is living in the 1990s, pre-Planned Parenthood fiasco. Most toxic employees are often promoted, not dismissed.

      Pros

      People who are unpaid interns for Komen should NOT be reviewing Komen as a work place. They are VOLUNTEERS and can pretty much come and go as they please without consequences. It makes me laugh to see how they all write that they have nothing bad to say about the place. Of course they don't. Please refine your system, Glassdoor. These reviews are largely meaningless.

      Cons

      If you do not make yourself constantly available, even at nights and on weekends, or to travel at the drop of a hat, be prepared to be looked at as a non-starter and a person who is not a team player. I knew several people at management level who made a habit of staying late EVERY NIGHT, by two or three hours. But their 'work' consisted of writing and answering personal e-mails, posting selfies on FB, or all sorts of other personal stuff. But they came out looking like heroes to the organization, because they 'worked late' all the time. So aggravating.
