Pros

Pays very well. Flexibility in hours as long as you are "productive."

Cons

As aptly summarized by Diana Blum's lawsuit, PAMF has a pattern of physician intimidation. It routinely roots out physicians who are committed to the highest level of care. Physicians who courtesy round on their patients in the hospital, are actively engaged in continuity of care, and are exacting in their standards are labeled "troublemakers" and told they are "not team players." I was provided a PAMF-employed coach whose message on behalf of PAMF to me was "do not interfere with a colleague's care unless it will literally cause imminent death of a patient- i.e., on your shift. To correct or change the course of a colleague's management undermines them and makes you not a team player." Physicians who are passionate about patient care are forced to resign after enduring extended psychological abuse, and in my case, actual extortion by my department chair who demanded favors and loans for thousands of dollars from me.

Pros

-Beautiful building/facility -Indoor gardens for patients -Breathtaking views on upper levels -Good location right off the freeway -High RN autonomy -Computer in every patient room -They have Epic

Cons

-Pay/benefits not competitive with other hospitals. Sutter will only match up to $200/year to your 401b -No 12 hr shifts but will ask you to work 16 hrs when they're short. It makes it even worse that they hire many travelers who work 12s alongside permanent staff -It's on the RN to empty the trash/linens/sharps bins from patient rooms multiple times a shift in addition to cleaning out and restocking the rooms when patients are transferred out (why is this on the nurse when there's patient care to be done?) -No nursing assistants in the ICU so RNs serve as environmental services, unit coordinators, and nursing assistants all rolled into one. -Have to keep going to other floors to borrow equipment -Navigating when/how/who to call when you need an MD or an order is a nightmare -Break nurses don't just watch your patients. They are burdened with many other tasks and takes away from what little support there is. There is no stand-alone rapid response team so when there's a code/RRT in the hospital, they are called off the floor to respond. -MDs are too reliant on nurses to put in their orders

Values & Senior Leadership

Pros

The pros are compensation, benefits and location (easy access and free parking).

Cons

Revenue Cycle senior leadership has double-standards with talking the talk, but not walking the walk. Policies are not consistently followed fairly and equitably. Corporate values are not expressed in senior leadership behaviors. The people are blamed for broken business processes. Incompetence at the top rolls down-hill with blame and lacking accountability.
