Pros

The location eliminated my commute. The insurance benefits are great. The training at the First Hill campus was very helpful. You definitely notice a difference in that First Hill is a lot more organized, supportive, positive, and welcoming than Edmonds.

Cons

The environment is not conducive to learning, questions are not encouraged and are viewed as if you are challenging their processes. There are very few reference materials, especially in the way of expiration dating. There are difficult personalities and you'll feel caught in the middle of their varying opinions and power struggles. The lack of teamwork between the evening and night shifts was like nothing I've ever seen before. The conflicting information from co-workers and management will leave you extremely frustrated. Don't expect any support from leadership. Your concerns will not be addressed. They would rather terminate you.

Hard work for CNA's

Pros

As soon as I started working here, I felt much better about being a CNA. My last hospital (VM) made me feel like a worker bee. I was often talked down to and called upon to do simple tasks that anyone (especially a nurse) could perform, but because I'm a CNA, no one need be bothered with such a thing. At Swedish, you are among peers. There is a level of respect among staff here that is hard to find, you're recognized for the work you put in rather than the nature of the work you do.

Cons

We're often short staffed, at times I feel like I'm in a nursing home again. Tonight, I have 15 patients.

Pros

Excellent compensation, many longtime employees

Cons

Dishonest upper management though they claim to be transparent. For example, layoffs are going on at the moment and departments are being eliminated in Secret Squirrel fashion. Should mention Swedish has a financial crisis resulting in layoffs every 4-5 years Layers upon layers of middle management so excruciatingly ineffective nothing ever gets done. This is an "old school" hospital that panders to it's physicians and big money donors.
