Unethical Management

Pros

They have to pay over market to retain people in this acidic environment

Cons

Management must have missed the Business Ethics portion of their MBA program. Product and process quality is very poor. Adherence to SAFCO culture dies hard. No training to speak of. Tribal knowledge prevails through-out this organization. Sadly, replacing higher cost , more seasoned employees with community college 'interns'. BEWARE, this is a career killer for IT Pros.

Pros

Flexible time off Good work life balance

Cons

Low pay, minimal increases unless you get a promotion, which is difficult to do. You’ll be excited at first to help, but you’ll realize its not worth the effort and lose motivation quickly. No reward for hard work, spot bonuses are given and are not very much (<$500). Inexperienced middle managers do not feel confident enough to make big decisions or stand up for us. Management will agree with you about problems but never do anything about it, or will promise for years to get it done. Expensive benefits compared to other employers Systems are old, clunky, make work 10x harder than it needs to be

I appreciate that you highlighted Symetra’s flexible time off and the work-life balance as positives. Symetra uses salary surveys and market assessments to establish our compensation structure to be competitive in the market places where we compete for talent. I’m sorry you didn’t have a good experience with your managers. We are always working to evolve our culture and if you’d be willing to discuss your experiences, I would appreciate any feedback you have to share.
