A Sinking Ship With No Life Boats

Pros

You can basically work from home whenever you want, even if you are supposed to be in the office. If you put in 20-30 hours of work a week, no one will notice. This is a common theme in multiple reviews, but at the company, it's touted as "work-life balance." You do get exposed to a lot of interesting work in the advertising space, mainly because you have to do the work of 2-3 people.

Cons

Symphony Talent is the most politically charged environment I have ever worked at. If you're a heads-down, hardworking individual who wants to do good work, you will not survive. Every smart and talented individual who enters the company will leave because they get burned out or are sick of others taking credit for their work. They cannot attract good talent at all. You will be paid 25th-40th percentile of the market you are in. You will be given tons of work that you cannot manage, and you will likely be blamed for any issues that arise. The technology is abysmal and outdated. The company seems to always be 10 years behind the current trends. The product and tech orgs are very much a clique. Literally 2/3rds of the whole company are work-from-home moms (no problem with that) who put in 10 hours of work a week (there's the problem). If you ask any of them to even take a phone call after 4:30pm, they will accuse you of overstepping work-life boundaries.

As always, we appreciate the feedback - transparency is at the heart of our core values, specifically #BeAnOpenBook. It's fair to say that some of the facts you've laid out are accurate - over 50% of our teams in the US work remotely and are female. But in living our core values, let me say: #CelebrateEachOther: Our people drive our success – we value and respect all of our relationships. As we grow, all employees are empowered to share ideas, trust one another and work collaboratively together. And we’ll act with the right motives. #BeAnOpenBook: Our Leadership Team is accessible to all employees. We empower our employees to provide feedback and challenge possibilities. #FocusOnTalent: Voluntary turnover is in the single digits. #ShareInSuccess, #DareToBeDifferent: In the past year alone, Symphony Talent has grown by 20% and we’ve received great award recognition including: Talent Acquisition & Retention Solution Provider, Most Innovative Recruitment Advertising Agency of the Year, Top HR Product of the Year - M Cloud. So if our core values, innovative/creative thinking, solutions and products speak to you, please join us and #letsdoneverdonebefore.

Symphony has driven me insane

Pros

I enjoy how laid-back the overall culture is. As long as you come in and complete your work, no one will bat an eye. That's the ONLY real requirement.

Cons

Management has been around for decades so no wonder the management style is outdated. Employees are forced to DO WORK, not learn and grow as employee and person.

Sinking ship theme is spot on

Pros

There are many people in the company that are talented and work well together. The ability to work remote when needed is amazing and unlimited PTO is a nice perk.

Cons

Those same amazing people will leave because this company IS a sinking ship. CEO and upper management make last minute decisions and set unrealistic goals. Add on our non-existent tech products that were rushed to market and are riddled with issues, the very high churn rate and you can understand why this company will probably be gone by the end of 2019 - if it makes it that long. CEO has a clear grasp on the media (a dying business) side of business, but his understanding of the tech side is very lacking. First company that I have worked that offers NO employee matching on 401(k). HR says they are looking into that, but that line has been given for the last several years. Compensation is way below market and the people who are well comped do very little to contribute. There is very little opportunity to advance and grow in this company. The CS team manage very few clients and it is very well known that they really only work 20-30 hours per week while other departments are being cut on a regular basis and have unreasonable workloads.
