Horribly Mismanaged Company with Real Promise

Pros

Fully Remote, meaningful projects, company seems interested in the growth of its employees.

Cons

Where to begin.... Like other reviews have mentioned, oddly, this company is in desperate need of middle management. At the very least it needs to find managers that can actually lead or enroll them in management training. The quality of the projects suffer under poor leadership while the boots on the ground do everything they can to keep things afloat despite best efforts from various leads that sit in meetings all day undermining the work that their teams do by making uninformed decisions in a vacuum. Features are regularly descoped in closed meetings and changes aren't communicated outward until it's the 11th hour, forcing everyone to scramble to accommodate. At TISTA, if you don't burn out from constantly managing a battle on two fronts (your work, and dealing with ineffective leadership forcing you to "manage up"), you'll burn out simply from the lack of agency in your role (no matter the role). If you want to be dictated to, TISTA is a fantastic company for this. However, TISTA is also a company where motivated self-starters go and fry themselves. TISTA has to rely on these individuals to carry projects, due to a lack of vision and understanding around what it takes to make these large projects a success. The processes in place to get a design and development cycle across the finish line are being made up as they go, and TISTA relies on this fact. You can't get the support needed for things because management is both unavailable and lacks the experience/expertise to keep things smoothly. If you surveyed their customers, I would wager they would make similar assessments. Working for TISTA started out great (albeit a bit overwhelming due to the lack of onboarding/training for a given role), but over the last few years has gotten worse and worse as quality leadership continues to find work elsewhere that doesn't have these same problems. Growing pains is an understatement. If you are considering TISTA, find yourself another company to work for.

Worst most unethical company you never want to work for

Pros

It used to be the people that were there but due to unethical behavior all of the good ones left.

Cons

1. The office space is dirty and unkept 2. HR is as bad as they come. Employees including me reported to HR the verbal abuse they received on a daily basis from partners of the company and nothing was done. 3. Benefits are horrible. 4. They claim to care about veterans but just ask them how many veterans they actually employ. 5. Unethical practices are running rampant at this place and no one is doing anything about it. 7. Everything is being monitored on a regular basis and the paranoia is high among some of the partners. 8. I could go on and on but what’s the point.

Horrible Company

Pros

Remote work is the only real benefit/pro that is there.

Cons

There are a LOT of downsides to working at TISTA. First, they tout being a "TISTA family", but treat you like a stepchild. The company laid off hundreds of people, with no notice. Imagine arriving to work and HR contacting you to tell you that today is your last day and you need to log off!! Decisions on who to layoff were made weeks in advance, but they didn't want people to quit, so they baited them until the last day so they could continue to work. Then, they didn't want to discuss it in the all-hands/Pulse meeting. Secondly, they are blatantly racist. There was NO acknowledgement of Black History Month. There were four weeks of Pulse Meetings in which nothing was said about not only the contributions made by Black associates, but minority associates in general. Also, every Black associate that reached the title of Director or Senior Director was released for one reason or another. Somehow, they made it on the list of layoffs when other, less competent executives stayed employed. The executive leadership team leans toward a very specific racial and gender mix. They bait minority workers by promising 'the next level' then lays them off right before they need to make the promise good. Next, the executive leadership team is guessing at how to run a company. The Board has been removed (either optionally or by force - who knows) and the company is floundering under incompetence. All of the professionals that know their job is laid off because they threaten the establishment and expose incompetence.
