Pros

Fast advancement opportunities. Free and paid classes to advance and obtain licensures in fields.

Cons

Dishonest managment, corrupt supervision, extremely prejudiced staff. If your colleagues and managers don't "like" you- they will make your lives miserable. I felt like I was disliked because I was caucasian. I was denied lunch, which was freely provided to African American employees. I was the only employee who had no office after 8 weeks of employment. I was referred to as "white boy" by some staff. I was left out of facility news/updates, and frequently ignored during meetings. I feel most organizations would be prosecuted for the treatment I was subjected to.

Pros

I enjoyed working with my co-workers; I had the opportunity to work with some amazing people. This position is a great stepping stone to pursue other careers within the human services field.

Cons

I went into case management to help others, however what I learned is that with every "non-profit" organization there is a business side. With Talbert House, I felt as though they were more concerned about the staff meeting quotas (billable hours) than the quality of service we were suppose to give to our clients. Trying to satisfy the business aspect of working for a organization like Talbert House while trying to provide excellent service to 50 clients that were on my caseload became exhausting. I felt like I was being overworked and underpaid...and I was. The pay along with the benefits provided were sub-par. For an organization that is suppose to provide services to help others within the community, they provided very little to its employees. When I worked there the organization had a very high staff turnaround.

Pros

Coworkers can be some really great people, Talking to the clients provides for a very unique and eye-opening experience. Get experience working in a Social-Work/Criminal Justice related field.

Cons

If you're Social-Work minded, it can feel like management is messing clients up intentionally. It feels as though money runs the facility, as opposed to a sense of good will. Can be draining to watch people get worse instead of better. People are promoted based on how friendly they are with the bosses, instead of based on personal merit.
