Pros
I worked at Talbots for about 2 months, but I was still having problems with a previous injury. I wasn't able to fully enjoy the benefits they had to offer though I did see that they do have some nice benefits. I am disabled, I am still trying to work some, just part-time, I had my own business and I am in the middle of some health issues. Unfortunately my health wasn't good enough to continue working there. The manager was nice, the training program was okay, it wasn't as good as it could be and they required too much for what they were paying. The environment for employees is okay. The people were scheduled pretty well but still didn't have enough hours to pay for food on their table, roofs over their heads and basic needs etc. Though this company still does adhere to the rules of equal opportunity employment, does pay their employees at least, The minimum wage. of $10.00 an hour. Once you have been there and you get promoted, they do have some really good opportunities for benefits, should you become "Management" ~ Retail, what's good about it? You don't have to be to work until about 9 or 10 a.m ~ It's Part-time work because they don't want you to make benefits like Health care it takes too much out of their pocket. If you are the Manager it's not a bad gig! You come to work and most times you don't take it with you, after work is done you are mostly done. You aren't guaranteed an amount of hours because of the situation described above. You do get a discount on clothing and textiles. And if you actually stay there in that job. You may eventually share in some profit margins but only once you are promoted to Management. Talbots is a good company to work for as long as you have someone paying the bills at home.
Cons
Retail is taking advantage of Women who are needing to work, they assume that if you have a husband at home he is going to be your main supporter. As a Company, this not just a Talbots problem!!! This is not the only company that does this, they advert to things like paying for Health Insurance, so they don't give people full time hours!! By not giving them full time hours, people then have to work two jobs to make it happen. The companies then do not need to pay insurances, benefits and some pensions are lost by companies just getting rid of those employees before they make the mark... it's not just Retail, it's business.. You are a number to those at the top watching the bottom line. The people at my job didn't treat me equally once they found out that I some disabilities. So if they never knew they would probably not have mistreated me but if I didn't disclose the information, and I was in a situation with Diabetes or other things that just needed to be adjusted for me to work..They don't like that!!! Retail in general takes advantage of their employees by not working them as much under 32 hours, legally can get away with no benefit packages for people..Then they over time their salaried Employees and making them work more hours, because they are salaried and don't get overtime to take up the slack..This isn't the only company that does this, many, many companies do this. They make people go above and beyond the call of duty!! To keep their jobs.
