Pros

The mission is admirable Objectively making psychiatry more accessible work/life balance is good individual contributors and middle management are mostly incredible people

Cons

Myopic focus on NYC means little impact elsewhere Executive leadership either lies to each other, the board, or just all of the corporate staff Direction changes are frequent and based on hunches, hopes, and dreams There's a reason average employee stay is under 1 year -- and its not because they're growing (its because they keep laying people off) Cannot NOT recommend this company enough if you value personal stability

Pros

The people that work here are generally smart and well intentioned.

Cons

Where to begin. At first you think it sounds great to work for a mental health company...until you realize the company and management does not practice what they preach. The work environment is overall stressful, kind of awful, and very problematic. Management lacks the emotional maturity required to successfully lead a department. For example, they routinely speak negatively of other employees behind their backs, including their direct reports, to other employees. They also treat direct reports differently, based on personal biases. What one person can get away with, another is scrutinized for. As other reviews have mentioned, management is completely insecure and self-serving and is therefore more interested in taking others down rather than figuring out how to extract quality work from the team. You may feel like you are walking on eggshells on a daily basis, trying to navigate the erratic moods and passive aggressive behaviors of management. If you aren’t interested or good at playing office politics you should probably run from this company especially if you have other options. Lastly, management’s treatment of young female employees, pregnant, and mothers of young kids is abhorrent. So be warned and know your worth. I wished I had a heads up about all of these issues. It would have saved me a lot of unnecessary stress.

Dysfunctional

Pros

The business model is reasonably sane and there is some potential for the company to succeed. It was started with a perfect thesis for the pandemic.

Cons

The leadership is composed of stereotypical ex investment fund/i-banking/McKinsey types who are borderline illiterate when it comes to engineering, finance, marketing, you know, things important for not running a company into the ground. Basic management principles like knowing when to delegate vs micromanage, how to prioritize important things and deprioritize less important things, and practicing basic empathy for team members are regularly preached but never followed, as if the company was run by a series of daily fortune cookies. And that might be perfectly OK if they knew their weaknesses, but they don’t. I joined the company recently and have to say the recruitment process painted a completely different picture. Read the other Glassdoor reviews. Avoid this company if you are any sort of minority, you will not be valued to an almost comical extent, and probably fired. As someone who has worked at multiple other companies, both larger and smaller, the level of dysfunction and self delusion here is extraordinary.
