Great teammates, poor culture

Pros

You'll work with really talented, smart, and driven people who you'll learn a lot from. You'll have the chance to work on really exciting and challenging projects.

Cons

Leadership/C-suite is out of touch. There's no effort to better understand the needs and perspectives of employees (both as it relates to the business and employee satisfaction) and no clear path to career growth and promotions and raises. It seems to be quite random (different teams, different seniority, etc.) for promotions. Similarly, leadership doesn't seem to want to take the time to understand everyone's work or job function while there also seems to be an implicit culture of working thankless long hours and weekends. As others mentioned, there is a culture of fear and people-pleasing and at least for some it's in an effort to get a promotion/leadership to understand the gravity of their work. This oftentimes means employees, who bring valuable insight and perspective, are discounted and just told what to do. There is no collaboration or listening from leadership. This working environment has translated into low morale, burnout, and of course employees leaving on a consistent basis (with a slow turnaround time to replace those who have left).

Great potential ruined by leadership/culture

Pros

Team members here are amazing and hard-working, the kind of team it feels good to be a part of. Good SF location, free lunch

Cons

Low transparency of decisions. Feedback is taken in an effort to appease the masses but is never implemented. Required 3 days/week in office in the middle of holiday season, when other admirable companies are fully remote and flexible. Decisions from leadership, often given very late, will change the trajectory of whatever you've been working on. No transparent policy on bonuses. Was told there are no sign-on bonuses when this appears untrue. Unlimited PTO that ICs are too scared to take. Implicitly accepted culture of working late hours and weekends.

Pros

Your coworkers (managers and below) here are phenomenal people. Salt of the earth types, people you would go to bat for and help out whenever you can because you know they'd do the same. Community of members is growing, they are happy, and you feel like you make a difference at times. Office has some nice food perks.

Cons

Leadership ignores asks/needs of employees, while pretending to care and ask. Will take feedback and still make thier own decisions when it comes to work life, WFH, COVID practices, etc. Planning and process might as well be optional. Leadership makes decisions only to tell IC's at the last minute and expects the world. Then will change course at the drop of a hate because their poorly flushed out idea didnt pan out. Young founders, little experience.
