Pros

The best thing about this job was being out of an office during the day. Once the training period is over you're out on your own. Your service truck is your office. You build relationships with the friendlier customers and learn to kiss the rears of the snobby individuals. It's a job. It's hard to get too excited about killing bugs.

Cons

I walked away from this company after four years. This was four years of empty promises and constant "wage freezes". Getting any sort of raise was impossible....even when promised. The upper management cares only about upper management. Not only do I feel sympathy for their current employees, but also their customers! On more than a few occasions I've seen customers' homes being eaten apart by termites while under protection contract. Once the branch's yearly budget is spent on customer repairs the tech was told to deny any termite damage or activity to the customers. I've seen managers tell customers that obvious termite damage was nothing more than water damage. "We'll catch it next year if they still have a contract with us." This is immoral and illegal! Meanwhile, the termites party down inviting friends over to join the feast. It's amazing how much damage termites can do to a structure in a year's time. Working there was miserable and wore away at my conscience. To this day I still cringe and feel sick at my stomach when I see a Terminix truck driving down the road. I did have the opportunity to work with some really great guys (techs) while I was there. We took care of each other and had each other's backs when needed. Most stayed as long as they could possibly stand it and bolted at the first given opportunity. I keep in touch with most of them and they all say life is better away from Terminix!
