Finally, I've achieved work-life balance
Pros
- Competitive pay - Excellent benefits - Company culture - Open-door policy - Innovation encouraged - Ethical from top to bottom - Community involvement - Work-life balance ****************************************** No one dreams of being in the insurance industry when they're young, but they do dream of having a job they enjoy with coworkers and management they like and appreciate. I have been in the industry for five years now and I couldn't be happier with where it's led me. Texas Mutual is a company that cares about its employees; I have always felt supported in my aspirations and am being provided the tools with which to attain them. Creativity and critical thinking are encouraged by the company -- so much so that constant innovation is one of the facets of Texas Mutual's mission statement. This philosophy helps drive the collaborative and fun work environment, balancing out the dry, regulatory field of workers' compensation. Work-life balance is aided by the ability to work remotely twice per week, but working in the office can be fun as well -- there's always something going on, from potlucks to contests to various holiday celebrations. The work environment is one of the best I've ever been a part of, and I truly feel like a member of the family at this company.
Cons
- Dress code - Moderate to heavy workload - Austin Regional Office somewhat far from restaurants/grocery ****************************************** As with most claims related jobs (if that's your area in the industry), it does take time management skills to keep abreast of the constant influx of claims, and it can be challenging at first. Be flexible and willing to change your style if what you're doing isn't working for you; pay attention to how successful adjusters handle their desktops and apply those philosophies to your own and you will be amazed at how easily things fall into place. The dress code isn't really much of a complaint other than the fact that most Austin-area companies are a little more lax than business casual. Jeans are allowed on Fridays, as long as they're paired with a professional shirt. As for the restaurants/grocery -- well, the good news is the Austin Regional Office will be moving in mid-2018 to merge locations with the Corporate Office, in a brand new building in the Mueller area. So that complaint will be moot in a little over a year.
