Pros

There are not many employers in Lubbock that can compete with Texas Tech when it comes to flexibility of schedule and opportunity. As a graduate student, there are plenty of internships, GA positions, and research assistant positions available. Also, the opportunities are pretty limited if you do not work for Tech. Unless you enjoy waiting tables or answering phones in a call center, there aren't many other large employers in Lubbock.

Cons

The only downside is there may not be a job specifically supporting what you are studying, so you may end up with a job that has little to nothing to do with what you are studying.

Pros

TTUHSC provides excellent benefits and work hours. The atmosphere is very relaxed and laid back. The pay is very competitive in the Lubbock area and the management staff is very supportive. Management allows employees the freedom to research possible additions to the support structure of the organization and we are given the freedom to do our work without management breathing down our backs.

Cons

I have been here for nearly one year and have not found anything that is really a negative when compared to previous jobs and employers. The only negative aspect is the lack of positions to move into from my current position. For advancement I would be dependent on someone leaving the institution, or moving to a different department.
