DSM Group (Vormetric) - decent, but under-resourced

Pros

People are generally pretty nice. Decent benefits. Nice current office in North San Jose.

Cons

Wide variation in the level of technical ability of the engineers. Some are quite good. Others, not so much Not enough young people Lots of standard engineering practices (e.g., unit tests) have not been implemented, or very inconsistently. Not enough engineering resource! Engineers are pulled from one project onto others for months, leading to a lot of stalled development. Too many cases where one person is the only one that knows something. If they're not available, development stalls. Not enough QA resource to test everything that needs to be tested, leading to stalled development Too many simultaneous releases Project management interaction with engineering is completely broken.

Pros

Profit sharing for LR8 or above can be up to a $10,000 bonus

Cons

No structure, organization, or processes. Very unorganized after the butout by Thales. Subjet Matter Experts are spread too thin. Projects get dropped as a customer focus business changes priorities with no transition plan for handing over work so many things get left undone.

Uneven Mangement

Pros

Interesting work with wide variety of projects. Some good managers interested in helping to get the work done.

Cons

Too many managers that don't know how to manage people, not enough information coming from upper management about where the company is going. Subcontractors not held to schedule/delivery, employees have to make up the slack.
