Poorly run company with good people working there doing important work

Pros

All employees from the CEO to dishwashers demonstrate that they care about serving the homeless

Cons

Poor communication and inconsistency leads to confusion as far as long program policies for clients and staff being told to do things outside their job description. The pay is low and the annual staff turnover rate of 31% reflects this It takes too long to hire people and they quit or get fired quickly

Pros

The frontline staffers are great Christ centered people that are extremely underpaid.

Cons

Leadership is untrustworthy. Dishonest, lack of integrity. They say they care about staff but they really don’t. They have a deceiving smile while telling you disingenuous things. They say one thing and then they don’t act. Depending on who you are or what kind of volunteer/level of a donor you are, they will bend their own organization’s rules for certain people. They mollify everything and they will justify themselves when staff has a concern.

Serve hundreds of homeless people at our Bowery and Tribeca locations.

Cons

Pay is not enough for a person to make a living long term. Most of the married people at The Bowery Mission are married to a spouse who must also work. 31% annual staff turnover.
