Pros

Excellent benefits and lovely environment.

Cons

Spend too much time and money on catering. Challenge to find work/life balance as an admin. that didn't strain the relationship with my supervisors. Hard to find ways to grow in the administrative role, though it varies among admins, depending on their group and manager.

The Broad Institute Response

Hi - this is Gillian Mackay-Smith, Associate Director, HR Special Projects. Thank you so much for writing a review, and for your great feedback about our benefits and our work environment. I’m sorry to hear that you had a hard time finding a work/life balance in your time at Broad as an administrative assistant. We recommend that those who may be experiencing these types of challenges reach out to their HR Partner or our BroadLife office to work with the employee and their manager to determine a mutually favorable path forward. In terms of career development support, our HR Partners or our People Development office can be helpful with career development steps, and we offer 1:1 coaching with an administrative career coach who is well versed in Broad’s various career paths. Additionally, the ASPC (Administrative Support Professional Community) is our affinity group for administrative support staff, and provides professional development and team building opportunities.

Pros

Co-workers: You are able to work with brilliant scientists who are passionate about their work. Their enthusiasm is inspiring.

Cons

Supervisors/Advisors: Principal investigator was proud of using fear to motivate employees. Lab workers were humiliated if experiments did not support favored hypothesis. Pressure to obtain desired data was so intense that (it appeared that) there might have been data misrepresentation on the part of lab members.
