Pros

Between Memorial Day through Labor Day, employees can leave the office at 12:30PM with out taking any vacation time. Employees get free products if you know the right people. For recent college graduates, it is a good place to be as a starting point in your career. You will learn a lot. But you might not get paid as much as your friends. It is a stable company since we sell household products. People will always need to clean.

Cons

It can be political. We do many, many forecasts. If you are not wanted, they will do everything they can to drive you out. Promotions and moving up is not clearly define since there are ways to move up with out following policies and guidelines. If they don't like you, you can be stuck in one job for years. Senior Management claims they support work/life balance, but will make you get your work done before you can have a life.

Pros

The variety of projects available to work on is outstanding. Clorox has a reputation for being a great place to learn the ropes and get training, especially in the F&A and development groups. The Technical Center has a summer work hours program where each Friday between Memorial Day and Labor day the workday ends at Noon. Clorox owns some of the most recognizable brands around and the pride you feel knowing you're a part of making those products better is great. The work is very interesting and, even though you can't publish any of it, it is very cutting edge and exciting to work with.

Cons

Office politics are out of control. Upper management has financial incentive to get their own pet projects done at whatever the cost, which translates into burning the subordinates at both ends of the candle to get the work done. The work culture has evolved to where workers don't want to help one another because they will be hurting their chances of getting a fair performance review and raise. For the last two years Clorox has had people quit in droves such that the calculated turnover rate is slightly above 50%. Upper Management is a good ol'boys network where they cover for each other, reward their favorite pet employees, then work the rest to death and screw them on their reviews. They talk a good game, but their credibility is shot and no one in the rank and file believes them.

Pros

The leadership positions at Clorox are filled primarily from within, by people who have shown themselves to be successful within the structure over time. This promotes highly developed levels of "institutional knowledge" and provides good role models for the system.

Cons

A highly competitive environment with explicit "up or out" people management generates aggressive/combative within team and cross-functional interactions. As a result, the culture rewards taking credit, not providing knowledge. Low to mid level contributors (below manager level) are often treated as "interchangeable parts" and are moved as company needs dictate, with little regard for employee morale.
