Do As I Say, Not As I Do

Pros

- compensation is fairly competitive - 36.5 hour work week (when you can get away with it) - perks (vehicle program)

Cons

- Culture is extremely distrustful and many co-workers play politics, so you cannot be honest in your communication with others, lest you risk losing your job. - Senior leadership are by and large not truly qualified for the leadership aspect of their jobs/roles and have a top-down mentality. Any challenges to their ideas/ways of thinking are met with swift fallout instead of open discussion. - While open communication, honesty and integrity are preached from the top, the truth is that the organization is rife with backroom politics and lawyers run the show. Many conversations that are clearly inappropriate ie: how to let go an individual, are held face to face but carefully left out of email/voicemail messages to ensure there's nothing discoverable.

Pros

The facility is wonderful with a top notch gym and instructors. The on-site cafe is handy (if overpriced). Company-wide events are excellent.

Cons

The company culture is very much personality-driven. Everyone is trying to keep the CEO (who is rarely on-site) happy. If you can keep your direct manager happy, then you will be okay -- as long as they can keep the person above them happy. However, each manager is different. I found the decision-making process to be totally opaque. Decisions that related directly to the scope of my job and to me personally were made behind my back and without an opportunity for me to give input. If you are a woman, please be aware the the benefits (specifically related to women's health and maternity) are not progressive. Make sure you have any family leave policy in writing before considering this job.

Pros

Good Benefits, Training are if you are senior level you get to lease Toyota's

Cons

Don't upset IT Leaders, Leadership or those that report to them because they will fire you with no excuse. The IT methodology that has been created does not relate to reality and only the few control it. The environment is ran by those who have been there long enough to get in good with the right people and if they don't like you you are gone. You will work in fear and it's all about perception.
